brief / approach

...the 'briefs' I got for designing stuff for the Theatre of Hate (and also for their precursor; The Pack and their later incarnation; Spear of Destiny...) were amongst the handful of my 'all time great commissions'...

 ...because their manager, the redoubtable Terry Razor would come into the art department - occassionally with Kirk Brandon - and say "we needed a new cover" telling me the title & sometimes giving me a cassette - and that was it - I was given 'carte blanche'  because they liked what I'd done for them and that in turn inspired me to do some of my best ever work...

backstory

...this T-shirt design is a good example of what you can do if you're given the freedom to experiment and develop a personal ‘graphic art style'...

  ...as well as showing what's possible when using a professional studio Process Camera* that enables you to combine hand-drawn line illustrations & hand-made textures with photo-mechanically created & altered graphic elements - that are then collage together soasto make the all-important artwork* for the printers to be able to print my designs...
