brief / approach

...This poster and the album's attendant music paper ad campaign was the first in the music industry to use pixelated images - and heralds the dawn of the digital age...

backstory

...just before leaving Stiff and setting up as c-more-tone studios I was fortunate to be invited by EMI Records to get involved in their early experimental digital image-generating set up - this involved a sprawling, magnetic tape-based computer that filled a small room and an extremely keen group of proto-geeks who couldn’t have been more helpful...

...not only providing the, then unique to the record industry, image for my poster but also a time consuming set of pixelated portraits of famous historical figures for the ensuing ‘guess the digitised faces’ ad campaign - which, looking back, was probably the most creatively exciting & rewarding one I ever did - happy daze indeed..!
