It was really great designing stuff for Wreckless Eric as he was very receptive to new ideas and, handily for me, liked the approach & style of stuff I was doing specifically for him - he'd been to art college and was always popping in to the Stiff Art Dept to check out how things were going with his covers & promo stuff - usually with a visual idea or two to offer...
...my idea for the cover was to play on the ambiguity of the untold but intriguing 'story' in the tableaux-style photo and visually tie together the plugless cord in his hand and his guitar lead to make a 'connection' with the title hand lettering...
The special 'wrecord' label for Wreckless I did was inspired by my love of puns and the 'world on a plate' Stiff logo (on the back cover...) that i'd done for the Stif Shop carrier bags - which was in turn inspired by Eric's imestimable Whole Wide World single...
...the back cover has insect silhouettes all around it to match up with Wreckless' shirt - and suit trousers on the front pic - there's also a brilliant matching jacket to go with it that features on the eponymous 69/11d* 'I'm A Mess' album cover...
...there's also a life-sized cardboard cutout of Eric - printed in big red & yellow halftone dots - in that suit that we had made for instore promotion - which i'll upload a pic of asap...
