I had a lot of work from Virgin where they wanted me to create a new look & imagery - which I loved doing...
It's an 18" square orange box from a market place, the idea was that it was compartmentalised, with each section representing a track from the album. It's 3D sculptural collage - like a doll's house, but made of things that might be teenager's leftovers. They are all cheap, ephemeral plastic toys as you would get from a newsagents or sweet shop...
At first I had just a track listing, later on a lyric sheet.
The background texture was made thus: Cover a cutting mat with thin strips of masking tape crossword style, criss-cross at 45 degrees with a scalpel and take lots of bits out. Put a piece of tracing paper over it and with a very soft pencil (Swan Stabilo, oil and pastel combined) rub all over like a brass rubbing. A technique I used many times...
The 'Into the Hot' lettering was 90% opaque, to make it very slightly transparent. They had a logo already, so I did a hand-drawn version of it to match in...
I've still got the painted collage but unfortunately a lot of the items have degraded and the elastic in the toys bracelet & necklace has completely disintergrated - next time I won't buy such cheap stuff..!
